March Listings

WEDNESDAY 3RD MARCH
**ORGAN RECOMMENDS** JAGA JAZZIST
@ Islington Academy, 19.00
“Mainman Lars Horntveth describes the new sound, tongue-a-little-in-cheek, as "Wagner meets Fela Kuti!", although to my ears the first single is more Mothers Of Invention, but certainly the album has major influences of Fela and Wagner in there! We find it hard to imagine a better soundtrack being written for the first Hollywood Viking epic” so said someone, just about right there say us at Organ...'

THURSDAY 4TH MARCH

**ORGAN RECOMMENDS** GIGGS @ Islington Academy, 19.30, £10
'The hugely talented, rising star of UK hip-hop Nathan Thompson (aka Giggs) is in town, “Gigggggs, Giggs will tear you apart again!”'
**DELIA SPARROW RECOMMENDS** IS TROPICAL, GLASSER, MILK @ The Lexington, 20.00, £4
'Somewhere between the frenetic scratchy impulses of the early Late Of The Pier demos and the Casio otherwordly goodness of Metronomy (says Pure Groove) London trio takes the sound that Metronomy mastered and runs with it in new and strange directions. Over the course of one song the band comes off as both creepy and precious, which is perfectly fine for a night out at the club. This is electronica that is more concerned about hooks and melody than your local popster, but the band isn’t afraid to throw you for a loop either — they don’t want you getting too comfortable'

SATURDAY 6TH MARCH

**ORGAN RECOMMENDS** THE TRUDY, THE WEDNESDAY CLUB, THE SEQUINS, THE GRESHAM FLYERS - Rota @ Notting Hill Arts Club, 16.00, FREE
'And like we’ve said many times before, you find RoTa over at the Notting Hill Arts Club, London W11, just down the road from Notting Hill tube station, past the book shop and Barclays Bank and there’s some big wooden door that take you to the basement. The Trudy also have a Japanese compilation CD on the way, featuring tracks recorded betweek 1982 -2007, “we worked very hard getting it all together and are very happy with it”. Some of you people with big yellow flowers on your t-shirts will know The Trudy from their shared bill and early line up connections with the Cardiacs family... Yes, that Trudy, still around and doing find indie pop things. Explore the colourful world of The Trudy over at www.thetrudy.co.uk'
**DELIA SPARROW RECOMMENDS** PROXY MUSIC @ The Lexington, 21.00, £3adv £5door
'The uber-glam proper 1970s glam night for GlamRacketeers, androgynes, space pirates, Slade groupies, brickies in make-up, people who still say stuff like "SCARPER IT'S THE FILTH!" and any occupants of interplanetary craft has live band Proxy Music playing the songs of Eno-era Roxy Music (so first three albums) in the style and sound of Roxy Music circa 1973 plus a few Eno tracks too. Inspired by glitter, OCD, JG Ballard and 2-for-a-fiver wine.'

MONDAY 8TH MARCH
**ORGAN RECOMMENDS** SERENA MANEESH, ENGINEERS, SOLAR FLARES @ The Lexington, 19.00, £7.50adv
'The first London show in over three years from Emil Nikolaisen and his band of Norwegian noiseniks. Now signed to 4AD, Serena Maneesh release their d second album ‘No 2: Abyss In B Minor’ on March 22, and it’s said to be something of a masterpiece, mixing the rhythms and abrasiveness of ‘Xtrmntr’-era Primal Scream with the otherworldly beauty of ‘Loveless’. Meanwhile after finally releasing their second album ‘Three Fact Fader’ to rapturous reviews last summer, Engineers’ resurgence was temporarily halted after some personnel issues forced the cancellation of their live dates. Now, with a slightly re-jigged line-up featuring Ulrich Schnauss on keyboard duties, the band make their first appearance of 2010. Guitar drones ranging from ambient to aural assault from this new duo Solar Flares, an outfit comprising Charlie Romijn from Bristolian post-rockers Thought Forms and Rajinder Sanghera.'

THURSDAY 18TH MARCH
**NEMESIS TO GO RECOMMENDS** THE BRIDPORT DAGGER, LIFE IN FILM, AY DUCANE, CRUELLA RIBBONS, The Dig @ Passing Clouds, 440 Kingsland Road, Dalston, 20.00
'A night of bohemian deviance and wild revelry, it says here - well, that sounds good to me. Art, film and music collide in what some insist is a secret location. Not secret enough to keep it out of the London Gigs list, obviously! I reckon this will be a good one if only for the ripped-up electropunk of Cruella Ribbons. More info on the night is here'

THURSDAY 25TH MARCH
**ORGAN RECOMMENDS** DIVORCE, BITCHES,
PHAT TROPHIES @ The Stags Head, Dalston, 20.00, FREE
'Divorce and Bitches, two of the very best of the new noise making in your face bands around, free entry, you read it here, the pints are on you, catch us at the bar! Divorce bring their glorious confrontation down from Glasgow, Bitches are from London, worth going if just one of them was playing and you had to pay actual money to get in! You get them both and you get in free! Come on, United aren’t playing, what else are you gonna do!?'
**ORGAN RECOMMENDS**
NOVEMBER FLEET @ The Legion, Old St, 20.00, FREE
'Three girls and a great big slice of rather fine emotional post-hardcore open hearted goodness from London, they're on at 8.15, the gig is free'

FRIDAY 26TH MARCH
**NEMESIS TO GO RECOMMENDS** TOY TOY, Decadent Disco @ The McQueen, 55-61 Tabernacle Street, Hoxton, 20.00, £5 concessions/cheap list before 9pm, £8 otherwise
'Toy Toy provide an injection of stroppy, punky pop to this regular club night: http://www.bangersandmashme.com/mcqueen.html (Note: the venue address given on the club's web page is wrong. The address here is right!) Decadent Disco’s soundtrack is 'everything Rock 'n' Roll, Electronica, 80's Synth, Indie, and Classic House.' Toy Toy are none of the above...and all of the above, sometimes in the course of one song. An infectious racket, and plenty of attitude.'

SUNDAY 28TH MARCH
**ORGAN RECOMMENDS** LEAFCUTTER JOHN: BRIGGFLATTS REWIRED plus more - London Word Festival @ Stoke Newington International Airport, 19.00, £6.50adv, £8door

Briggflatts Rewired takes Basil Bunting’s extraordinary and intensely musical poem as the starting point for a new, electronically-enhanced composition. In an event that explores the interplay between sound, voice and textuality, Leafcutter John is joined by acclaimed Welsh poet and performer Peter Finch, haunting Highland musician MacGillivray and startlingly effervescent wordsmith Hannah Silva.'
